FABLES (final draft)

Fables is a film that takes place outside of time, it happens in a place unknown to any of us. The film tells the story of a very important man called “God”. God’s wife cheated on him in their home in their bed. God discovers his wife’s betrayal when he finds a shoe under his bed that her lover left behind in a rush. He hires two professional hitmen to search for the man from a list of six suspects. They are called, “HQ” and “Midnight”. HQ is the most sadistic of the two and lives in a certain trance generated by the theories that he has created about life. Midnight is an immense black man, very sensible and much more connected to our universe, even though still quite far, he is a man of few words but very strong, being the leader of the two. The manner in wich HQ and Midnight follow meticulously their “list” of suspects, they encounter different characters in various situations that in some form are familiar to the audience, little by little we discover that they are fragments of scenes from childhood fairytales, fables very well known but approached from an entirely new context. These fragments are in actuality pieces of an enormous puzzle that “HQ” and “Midnight” have to solve. This challenges the audience to remember and decipher the fables and figure out what is going to happen. As the pages turn, the screenplay leads us to believe that we know who the lover of God’s wife really is. But, in the way that each piece of this enormous puzzle fits into place, all that we feel we know begins to seem “false”, and just like that we discover that perhaps all of our incessant search for “Cinderella”, is something that is totally in vain and part of an occult strategy created by some otherness far beyond the understanding of the common man, some “otherness” much greater.

CHAIRMAN (script in development)

The film tells the story of a chairman named, Petronius, the survivor of a plane crash, who comes to it in the middle of a forest. On the plane with him were a woman and the pilot. Petronius finds the charred remains of both and sees the pieces of the wreckage scattered around the forest. He remembers nothing and, frightened, runs away. Days and days go by and Petronius is still lost in the forest, with nothing to eat or drink. He is about to pass out when he hears the humming of an engine getting closer. Petronius then climbs up an embankment in the woods and sees a narrow, fully paved highway. Suddenly a wheelchair whizzes past him, driven by a young paraplegic man. Petronius is scared and notices, ahead of him, a road sign that says “Welcome To Wheelers”.

Petronius realises he is in a town where every single person is a wheelchair user. The whole town has been specifically designed for them. Petronius feels odd and is treated by them as such. He needs medical care and remembers nothing from the past.

In a city where it’s all ramps, and extremely low ceilings, with no bathrooms and various other structural adaptations; Petronius tries his best to adapt, as he feels helpless in that universe.

He needs to use the bathroom but he can’t go, there are no bathrooms there. Everyone ‘goes’ on their own chairs, into containers fitted under their chairs, which are changed twice a day. Petronius is a lot slower than everybody else because he has no engine. He gets exhausted from climbing up long ramps. He needs to stoop down every time he goes into a different place. In short, he feels odd, inferior and is despised by all in that society.

Amanda, who lives in Wheelers, feels sorry for him and ends up taking him under her wing and begins to teach him to live in that community. Her first measure is to buy him a wheelchair in the second-hand wheelchair store.

He then undergoes a learning process. First his legs are forgotten and he learns to move about in a wheelchair. As Petronius gets more and more used to living in the town his legs start to atrophy and he loses control over them. Petronius and Amanda start a relationship, much to the displeasure of her family, as they think he may be a burden to her.

One day Petronius has a dream in which he sees several people moving on their own feet. It frightens him enormously and he tells Amanda. She tells him it was just a nightmare, but the dream keeps coming back night after night, and Petronius’ memory starts to come back. He remembers his wife. He remembers she was with him on the plane. He remembers his children, and slowly it all comes back to him. Petronius is now in a crisis, now impotent, unable to get up from that chair. He tries to tell Amanda that there is a world where people walk upright. A world where people who can’t walk are handicapped. Petronius is reported to the police by Amanda herself, who, on her parents’ advice, thinks it’s the best thing to do. He is arrested and placed in a mental institution, together with two other men who also claim to know the world that Petronius swears exists.
